Tidy-up the desk!

Some days are special indeed. They come once in a while. You feel like fresh from the heart. The brain works like a 'defragmented' PC.. no troubles, what so ever :) the hard disk in the brain spins smooth, if there is one!!
The heart comes forward, places a beautiful smile on the way; fell like greeting everyone at any corner; and brings you to tidy up the desk; to be more organized; to be proactive; ticks-off almost every thing in the to-do list...! It's hard to find a reason for that wonderful day. Some time its better not to think about it, but to live and enjoy the great day :).. and today is one of those awesome days and I did enjoyed the whole!!

Yet another journey with out the Passport!!

Successfully crossed the sea... across the German border... in to Denmark... and finally, boarded the train to Aarhus! No one will ever come after this and ask me, "May I see your passport, sir?". Oh, this is the second time am doing this; and never been caught for traveling out side Denmark with out the passport which keeps me away from remembering to take my passport out from the closet while packing my stuff for the travel. Hell with my memory. I would say, its also because of a typical Indians mindset, 'passport is for flights' and here in Europe, very often you will travel across countries by bus or the train as I did later and now.

The first time, it was to Den Haag, The Netherlands. We were about 50 people traveling by bus from Aahus to Den Haag, a month ago to take part in a demonstration organized in front of the International criminal court (ICC), demanding the ICC to initiate investigations against war crimes committed by the Srilankan army in the name of 'Humanitarian Operation' against the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) (in fact against the Tamils on the whole), two years before. I informed the event organizer in the bus while we were about to cross the borders. He said, "its not very often they stop vehicles and check, but if they do today, we will try to explain. It might or might not help. Lets see." I wasnt sure if that was a note saying, 'dont worry' or 'keep worrying'??!! But my mind choose to do the later, until I went in to sleep. But nothing happened, no one asked on the way to and fro. I remember I had the same feeling as I have now when I crossed the border back. Oh! I shouldn't do it again. But, of-course I did it again.

Its to Lubeck, Germany this time to visit my school day friend Krishna. I didnot had the feeling until I lost the signal in my mobile phone. Then I realized, 'Damn it! Am going to another country!' Until then, I was cool enjoying the music. But then, every time the ticket checker crosses, my mind voice goes, "Don't come to me... dont come to me...! I hope he dont hear me screaming...! hm.. its good that the humans are not yet evolved for hearing one another's mind voice..." and so much on!

But I dont even know what would be the punishment for that. I have the social-security card from Denmark, but people say no thats not acceptable, you need to carry the resident permit! But anyways, after giving this deep though, I hope I wont do this again! :) If I do, I wish I get caught once ;-)... just curious to know what could that situation be!! :D

…always close to finish!

Its the 6th day in a row, I come to the office in the morning and when I open my lab-top, am saying to myself, “I’ll finish the manuscript today”. Am I going to say the same thing tomorrow also?? I see my weekly-planner, little above the laptop screen hanging on the wall; what I could easily see is deadlines and  then moving the deadlines. When you are close to finish with some thing, and you think oh, its going to be done in some time.. and that some time continues for some time! Ah… am really tired of it…  is there a dot to cure this syndrome!!?? When I tried to pen down what I felt like, I came up with this (click here to see).

Calm mind!

Its not very often, I feel this silence and being calm. There was a lot of noise around my brain last night. It would ve been a bad idea, if I decided to write this post yesterday. 

It was just because of one single experiment that went wrong yesterday, ruined my whole day. I kind of underestimated the time consumption of one of my experiments and I had a perfect plan for this week based on that experiment. But it turned out that I could only finish a small portion of it by the end of the evening. As it turned out, my plan for the whole week was messed-up. If you are a PhD student, standing in your final half year of the PhD period, you will know what is a 'week-time' means. 

This morning, the very moment I opened my eyes, I felt like the messed-up plan, like a giant frog - jumped on to my face, as if it was waiting for me all night. It was very uncomfortable carrying it during the morning functions, brush, bath, eat... all the way to the office.

I had to spend over 2 hours this morning, to remove the frog out of my face, to reframe my whole plan that could fit my expected deadlines and finally the day went smooth. It really is a great relief when you know what you are to do in a situation and you know you can do it! And am going to have a good night sleep with a calm mind!

Blog guilt and the sunday night diner expedition!

Its been a while since I wrote a blog and its been troubling me a lot these days. So finally today I wanted to write something and opened my "ScirbeFire". Hmmmmm... but am stuck, I dont know what to write!! By the time I was rotating my eyes, my google reader app showed 17 documents unread... I thought, 'ok, lets jump in to the reader and get some inspiration to write'... it was all politics, dirty politics around the state and the central govt. revolving around the forthcoming assembly election. Sigh, my brain is not ready to deal with this s#!t now and so I moved on... what to write??? This blogging guilt is driving me crazy tonight... am I alone in this planet?? Ctrl+T -> blog guilt 'Enter' (Fig.1). No am not!! Over 11,600,000 hits... am not crazy enough to read any of them!

Ofcourse, I feel better now, but still that doesnt answer the question stuck between my fingers and the key borad. 'what should I write??' Should I write about the delicious dinner (fresh in my stomach ...up to  the throat) hosted by a nice Tamil Family? But I havent written any thing like that in my blog... but why not? After all, its my friends who are going to read it and is in't it good to share such nice things with my friends through this medium??!! yeah, why not?

So, here I go with my 'sunday night dinner expedition'!! It was a great meal with Chicken curry, Dhall with Potato, Beaf curry, Boiled eggs, and a special liquidy stuff called 'sothi' (made of tomato and garlic)! For all these above side dishes, the main dish was idiyappam (Fig.2) and finally, the course ends with icecream dressedup with fruit salad. Oh... I wish I could have an extra stomach!! After the great meal I was playing with their kids (3 of them, 10, 8 and 1 year old). Vithushan, the eldest wanted to entertain me with his newly learnt dance moves from his favorite Tamil hero, Vijay (Video attached); Yathusan, the youngest wanted to join-in but cant affond to dance with his loosing balance. He also has got a couple of tooth in his jaws and occationlly wanted to experiment its presence on me!!



Saruka, the middle one was unfortunately not so much in joy as she got her right fore-hand operated for removing a glass piece sitting between her soft muscles since a couple of months, from an unfortunate car accident! But I was happy that she could enjoy the music and dance with me. It was really a nice time I had with them during this sunday evening; and finally before I left their home, had a nice Tea with milk, sugar and cardamomum. Good that they dont have their car for tonight to drop me, so I got the chance to walk to and from the bus, on the way back to my home for letting the food to settle down and digest better. 

So thats how the story ends and now, I ve also got some text and few figures in my post and thats how am getting over my blog guilt for today!! Thanks for reading it folks!! ;-)

Anarchy took charge to enact the legislature!!

We have a strongly written legislature in India. Yes, a strongly WRITTEN legislature; i hope I will convince you for that at the end. 

It was a few days before, I dropped-by a blog hosted by a student from Maharastra state. The title of his post made me to stop there. It read as 

"Are we living in a Democracy?". 

The 16 year old has offered his refute upon his government, for removing a "controversial" book from the university syllabus. The reason for his complaint was that, the government made the decision because, the said book carries contents which may defame the ruling political party . I had a say before I leave the page. I wrote,

"In India, like many other things, democracy is also a ‘written in black and white’ thing!" 

It occurred to me again with in a  short period of time, just few days I guess. So here I am to pen-down my thoughts, in my accent!

The majority people in India who belong to the Hindu religion, just finished the Dhasera celebrations."Ayudha puaji (ஆயுத பூஜை)" is known to be an integral part of the whole Dhasera celebrations. This day is meant for worshiping the tools, equipments and implements of any kind. A festival to pay homage to the tools they use for their occupation is infact the belief. This has been extended to decorate and make special worships for the business places aswell. Its special to the Indian kids as this is the only day their parents ask them not to sit, study thier text books, but decorate and keep them with the idols of worship.

But, being a secular state, all these and many other religious celebrations are restricted to private intrests alone. There is nothing unlawful in celebrating the occasion in household or private environments. It is according to law, the practice of such (and any other) religious rituals in any government premises is illegal. Even idols, pictures or any form of religious symbol is illegal to practice in government settings.

This stays a very good example for the expression, "strongly written" legislation, because in fact, almost no government office obey the said policy. Every year, in every government office, there is this day the place is decorated and pojas are being conducted without fail. Not only this one such religious ritual, there is a long list if we observe keenly. I lived in few other states in India other than Tamil Nadu, where I was born and have seen that every government institution does these unlawful religious practice. I will be happy to know if there is some place in India where there is no such activities.

The heights of this unlawful practice is that the very department where you can complain about illegal behavior also follows the same, the 'police department'. They do decorate their, wireless receivers, pistols, rifles and other gadgets in their custody. So, whom should we go, blame when the whole nation is doing this? The ones responsible to protect the law is being unlawful, so the only thing that can reverse this is 'anarchy', be a rebel. Thats what happened in Tamil Nadu state this year.

The social organization, "Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam"  issued requests to the police stations about preventing and not to practice the religious rituals in the government buildings. But the said, police station, did made all the arrangements for celebrating the ritual, neglecting the letter of public intrest which referred to the said law. Reflecting to the act, the activists made their appearance in the scene and ruined the whole demonstration.  They are behind the bars now for doing this. But, I call them 'the heros' and appreciate their daring reaction. Let this be a lesson for those who deny. Let this spark light up more fire around the country and burn the amiss.

Collector Umashankar Vs Kalaingar Karunanithi Family

I got a mail forwarded stating that EVERY INDIAN MUST READ. I was less curious to open this email as the subject, EVERY INDIAN MUST READ is not very unusual and some times carries no information that can be trusted on; so was sleeping in my inbox until I finished reading my other mails. I decided to delete this mail as soon as I open this as anyways I dont want to trash it unread. But the one name made me to read all its contents, "Umashankar I.A.S."

I know this name since I was in my schools as a straight forward officer and heard a lot about him. He hail from a socially suppressed community in the name of the Hindu religion. Contradicting the pursued doctrines of the religion, he is well educated, intelligent and sincere. I could imagine how hard it would be to reach the place where he is. For this reason, I do have a special respect for him.

The mail carried a letter drafted from him to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes subjecting, “Complaint filed by C.Umashankar IAS., against the State of Tamil Nadu”. Iam presenting the letter  unmodified as was in the email. I have no idea about the source of the copy of the letter and credibility of the duplication. But, I strongly believe that Justice should protect Umashankar I.A.S which can apprise such sincere offeciers, who seems to be very few in India  to continue serving the people.

Complaint filed by C.Umashankar IAS., against the State of Tamil Nadu

I was selected for appointment as an IAS Officer by the Union Public Service Commission against SC quota and allotted to Tamil Nadu cadre during 1990. I joined the Service on 20^th August 1990.
I state that during 1995 I was working as Additional Collector, (Development) and Project officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Madurai. There was misuse of funds allotted for construction of Cremation Sheds for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled tribes under Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY). I refused to obey the illegal order of the then District Collector, Madurai Mr.P.R.Sampath IAS., to award the contract to a private contractor. A pubic interest litigation came to be filed in the Madras High Court. I filed an affidavit in the said writ petition narrating the true facts. (Annexure A[i]).
A Division Bench of Madras High Court, accepting the affidavit filed by me ordered a CBI enquiry in WP No.15929/1995. (Annexure B[ii]). The real accused in the scam are yet to be punished.
During 1996, the DMK was voted to power. The Government appointed me as Joint Vigilance Commissioner to peruse the files pertaining to high level corruption. I submitted several reports including 1) South India Shipping Corporation Share disinvestment scam (loss of Rs.200 crores) 2) Granite quarry lease scam (loss of about Rs.1000 crores) 3) Allotment of plots and houses of Tamil Nadu housing Board to fictitious persons (loss not estimated) 4) Purchase of 45000 TV antennas and boosters without following tender procedure and without ascertaining the actual need 5) Leasing of 20 acres of Coimbatore Medical College lands to Star hotel, club etc., in the name of women and child development at throwaway lease rent 6) Fraudulent grant of Patta for 7106 acres forest land in Megamalai forest village, Madurai/Theni district to one family etc.
I indicted several senior IAS officers including the ex Chief Secretary Mr.N.Narayanan IAS., Thiru.C.Ramachandran IAS., Dr.S.Narayan IAS., Thiru.Debandranath Sarangi IAS., former Chief Minister, Ministers and others.
To my dismay I found that no worth while action was taken against highly influential officials who were deeply involved in the corruption. I therefore requested the Government to relieve me from the post of Joint Vigilance Commissioner.
During February 1999 I was appointed as District Collector, Tiruvarur. I introduced e-governance in the district administration. This was the first of its kind in the whole of India. Tiruvarur was rated 20 years ahead of rest of India by leading News Paper – Times of India (Annexure C[iii]). The English weekly, THE WEEK, in its millennium edition chose me as the Bureaucrat from all over India who can make the life of Indians better in the new millennium (Annexure D [iv])
I submit that in the next general election, the DMK was defeated and the AIADMK came to power. I was sidelined and appointed as Commissioner for Disciplinary proceedings, an ex-cadre post.
The DMK was voted to power again in May, 2006. I was appointed as Managing Director of ELCOT, a state owned company. I introduced total transparency in the matter of award of contracts by introducing e-tender and also by introduction of a new method of tender evaluation by the bidding contractors themselves. I also introduced the use of large scale free and open source software in Government offices during this period.
While I was working in ELCOT, twice I was called by Tmt.Rajathi Ammal, wife of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to her office at Alwarpet. I should have refused to meet her. However, by way of courtesy I met her in her office. She attempted to influence me to award contract to her men in the matter of purchase of 45000 fishermenwireless sets. I told her that only through e-tender contracts are finalised and I should not be disturbed.
I state that ELCOT along with another private limited company by name New Era Technologies Limited, controlled by one Thiagaraja Chettiar floated a joint venture company named ELNET Technologies Limited. The share of ELCOT in the new company is 26%. The share of New Era Technologies Limited is 24% and the remainder shares were subscribed by the public. This Joint venture company ELNET floated a 100% subsidiary company named ETL Infrastructure Private Limited with intention of floating an Information Technology Park cum Special Economic Zone at Pallikaranai, Chennai. The company owns 26 acres of land which had been given IT Special Economic Zone status by the Government of India. The company built 1.8 million square feet IT building in this IT- Park cum SEZ. The total value of the asset is more than Rs.700 crores. The said company mysteriously disappeared from the control of ELNET and ELCOT obviously with the connivance of former Chairman of ELCOT and political heavy weights. In my capacity as Managing Director, I was also the Chairman of ELNET. I wanted to probe the circumstances in which the ELCOT and ELNET lost control of ETL Infrastructure Limited. I circulated a special resolution to be moved in the Annual General Body meeting of the share holders of ELNET for removal of Unnamali Thiagarajan W/o Thigagraja Chettiar from the office of Managing Director of ELNET (Annexure-E[v]). The Annual General Body meeting of the shareholders of ELNET was to be held on 30^th July 2008.
I also sent special reports to the Government regarding the scam namely the mysterious disappearance of ETL Infrastructure Limited worth more than Rs.700 crores(Annexure-F[vi]). I wanted a probe in the role of Mr.Vivek Harinarayanan IAS., and Dr.C.Chandramouli IAS.,
I state while I was physically verifying and searching the records pertaining to the mysterious disappearance of ETL Infrastructure Limited in ELNET's office on 28^th July 2008, I received an order of transfer removing me from the post of MD, ELCOT and posting me as Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation Limited (TIIC) (Annexure G[vii]). I have reason to believe that it was a fraudulent transfer. The order of transfer was passed adverse to public interest and to help the said Thiagaraja Chettiar. It is perceived that Mr.M.K.Alagiri, Union Minister was responsible for my abrupt transfer from ELCOT.
While I was working in the TIIC, there was a feud between Maran brothers who own the Sun TV group of Television network and the family of Dr.Kalaignar Karunanidhi, the Hon'ble Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu. The feud between Maran brothers who have become very powerful and one of the richest in the country and M.K.Alagiri, the elder son of the Chief Minster was well known. The burning of Dinakaran News Paper office at Madurai and hurling of petrol bomb and death of 3 innocent persons in the murderous attack is also well known.
I state that the Hon'ble Chief Minister called me and ordered me to take assignment as Managing Director of Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited. I told the Hon'ble Chief Minister that I would not be able to work under Dr.Chandramouli IAS., against whom I had submitted a report on the mysterious disappearance of ETL Infrastructure limited and also pledging of ELCOT's Joint Venture company – ELNET to secure Rs.81 crore loan for the mysteriously disappeared company namely ETL Infrastructure Limited. Dr.Chandramouli IAS., was transferred from the post of Information Technology Secretary cum Chairman of Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited and in his place Mr.P.W.C.Davidar IAS., was appointed. My appointment as MD, Arasu Cable TV corporation was notified simultaneously on 30^th October 2008. (Annexure-H[viii])
I assumed office as MD, Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited, a Government owned company on 3^rd November 2008.
I found that Sumangali Cable TV, controlled by Maran brothers was indulging in large scale destruction of Optic fibre cable infrastructure of Arasu Cable TV Corporation. Sumangali Cable Vision was determined to ensure that their monopoly was maintained by all means. I brought to the notice of the Government the criminal acts committed by the Sumangali Cable Vision Limited and the involvement of Pongalur Palanichamy, a Minister in the State Cabinet in helping Sumangali Cable TV who destroyed the property of the Government company. I sent several reports including the proposals for arrest of Maran brothers under the preventive detention laws and for action under the penal laws. (Annexure I [ix] – 21 pages)
I state that there was a settlement of the dispute between the Maran brothers and the family of Dr.Kalignar Karunanidhi. As an officer of the All India Service I pursued my job in right earnest and wanted the Maran brothers to be punished and Sumangali Cable TV to be nationalised (Annexure J[x])
I state that I was shunted out of Arasu Cable TV Corporation and posted as Commissioner of Small Savings, an ex cadre post. The Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited is now almost dead.
I state that the Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Maran brothers became vengeful against me and wanted to disturb me.
While I was working in TIIC I sent an intimation to the State Government under Rule 4 (2)(b) of the All India Service (Conduct) Rules 1968 stating that my wife Suryakala M.Com., BL., was employed in Tessolve Inc. Chennai branch as HR Executive. She was working in that company from 1-4-2008 to 31-12-2008. Her gross salary was Rs.25,000 per month.
I state that the State Government which was determined to throttle me at the behest of the Maran brothers issued a charge memo apropos my wife joining service in Tessolve Inc. The Charge Memo was issued to prevent empanelment of my name in the cadre of Joint Secretary to Government of India. Because of this, I have been denied Joint Secretary empanelment during this year. I have been denied even a car loan and allotment of housing plot by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
I filed OA No.79 of 2010 on the file of the Central Administrative Tribunal, Chennai and obtained stay against the Charge Memo on 16^th January 2010 (Annexure- K[xi]).
I received a communication from the Chief Secretary to Government (Annexure- L[xii]) regarding my movable and immovable assets. I sent a reply dated 28-10-2009 (Annexure-M[xiii] ).
On 6-5-2010 a Deputy Superintendent of Police called me over phone and sought an appointment for conducting enquiries regarding my alleged assets disproportionate to my known sources of income. When I asked him under what authority he was asking me to answer his queries, he said he was so authorised by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption. This led to my filing WP No.12274 of 2010 on the file of the High Court.(Annexure-N[xiv] ). The Hon'ble High Court was pleased to admit the writ petition and grant stay.
I also filed WP No.15946 of 2010 (Annexure-O[xv]) questioning the Manual of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption under which the officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, namely police officers conduct enquiries against All India Service officers de-hors the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure. It is my case that the State Government is free to institute any disciplinary proceedings against me in accordance with the provisions of the All India Service Act, Public Servants Enquiries Act, the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure and the State Government is not competent to conduct any enquiry against me without registering a case against me by the due process of law. The writ petition is pending adjudication.
I state that the Government of Tamil Nadu have passed G.O Ms No. 670, Public (Special. A) department, dated 21-7-2010, suspending me from the service pending enquiry to scrutinise the genuineness of the Scheduled Caste community certificate produced by me. (Annexure-P [xvi])
I state that the Government have also issued a press note on 23-7-2010 intimating to the press the cause of my suspension. I state that the law relating to caste certificates is settled. It is only the Committee which can go into the question of caste certificate.
I submit that I submitted the community certificate to the Union Public Service Commission. When the results of the All India Services examination was published by the UPSC, my name was withheld and placed in the provisional category pending verification of the community certificate. The certificate was duly verified and thereafter the result was published.
I submit that the Government have not taken any action against the corrupt bureaucrats. The state Government is targeting me because I have been honest and sincere.
The State Government have caused a publication in the New Indian Express dated 25-7-2010 titled “Umashaknar Did produce false community certificate”, stating that I have produced a false certificate. The news paper report is engineered by the State Government, the Maran brothers and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption of Tamil Nadu(Annexure-Q[xvii]).
I state that in WP No.15946 of 2010 I have alleged that one Mr.Ram Mohan Rao IAS was found in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the extent of several crores of rupees. The amount is said to be about Rs.81 crores. The Government is protecting him. The Government is protecting all corrupt officials and making use of them. The Government does not want officers like me to serve the public.
I state that I am not claiming any special right. I can be charge sheeted under the All India Services Act, Public Servants Enquiries Act , the Prevention of Corruption Act or under the penal laws if the Government have credible information and materials against me. The Government, through the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption have started a smearing campaign against me by planting false stories as if I have produced a false certificate. I have come to know that the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is insisting that an FIR should be filed against me. The State Government headed by the present Chief Minister is intolerant and vindictive against me because I recommended penal action against Maran brothers and made public the scam in ETL Infrastructure where the hands of Mr.M.K.Alagiri, a Central Minster of the DMK party is involved. Thus the State power is being misused against me.
I therefore request the Commission to protect me from illegal harassment by the Tamil Nadu Government, the Chief Minister's family and the powerful Maran brothers who are closely related to the Chief Minister.
Please ensure that enquiry, if any, regarding my caste certificate is conducted by the Central Vigilance Commission or CBI or any other Central agency not under the control of the State Government.
Appropriate action may be initiated to allow me to work under the Central Government or any of the agency of the Central Government not under the control of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
I also request you to ensure proper security to me and my family through Central Security forces.

Women, now wait for the Monsoon!!!

Here is the unfortunate expected!!!

"There couldn't be any talks on the Women's reservation bill as parliament was focusing primarily on budget"- Pawan kumar Bansal, the parliamentary affairs minster nailed the issue.

It was a delight to the women when the bill was passed in Rajya Sabha. The Trinamool congress did not participate in the voting, the BSP walked our of the house with out voting. Still the historic bill which was waiting since 14 years made its day on the 9th of march 2010. Despite the controversies, the bill got a 2/3rd majority. The Prime minister described it as a 'momentous and historic' measure. The media anchored as the Women's day gift for the Indian Women. The government promised to introduce the bill in the Lok Sabha in the 'budget session'. All celebrations were over and the day has arrived, but with the 'unfortunate expected', "wait for the next session".

It was all the media and public debated a lot over the women's bill. Some applause,  some unsatisfied and the rest rejected. The constitution bill which holds the 108th amendment, reserves 33% of seats for the women in Lok Sabah and the state legislative assembly. While answering a question for 'why women's reservation bill is important', Gnani, an elder journalist marked in a media debate that once after the panchayats got the 33% reservation for women, the  untouched but important issues like sanitation were taken up sincerely and the change was apparent in the villages. Now, its clear that a chance for heading a great change for the whole nation is being messed up.

Its the dirty politics the bill had to suffer. April 27, 2010 - the government faced a Cut-Motion and the fate of the bill was decided apparently. Its been traded for defeating the cut-motion. In the words of the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, "Whatever happened over the cut-motion in the parliament, women's bill was sacrificed in the process"!

So Women, now you wait for the monsoon session and dont get disappointed when this will happen again; after all you have waited for 14 years!!!

Hyderabad Blast: |We just got all wrong|

rThe CBI now says, that the men were wrongly arrested for the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad (2007). When it happened, the police and the media showed their fingers towards the pak-based terror outfits and now after a couple of years, they say, 'oh! we just got it wrong' the new evidence links the attacks to some radical hindu terror group. So, what happens to these young men who were arrested and been in jail for years?? And the worst part is there was no FIR filed on these guys under the blast case but were shown to the public as guilty. It is unfair if the govt. is just sorry!!

Ganesh Temple festival in Denmark

SurThis Ganesh temple was built and being maintained by the Eelam Tamils. The 22^nd of this month, there was the fastival of this temple. There were a lot of people participated in the fastival. Eventhough I couldn participate, I felt that the festival would be of more western, after all these people were migrants from their land settled here sice a long time wouldn’t bother to preserve their signatures. They really live a different lifestyle.

But I was wrong, a frind of mine was one among a bunch of Indians travelled from different places of Denmark to attend the occation, shared her surprize about the fastival and people there. Take a look at the pictures, see how many of these women wearing a jeans which is their regular style. Hmmm... the story is different about the men... may be I want to discuss about it later in a different post ;-) (Images from: www.indiansindenmark.com)

MOGOGO – a standing proof for our ancient trade since 3 millennium B.C.

Two months before, it was an accident I, with a goup of foreign people went on for a dinner to MOGOGO, an Ethiopian restaurent. MOGOGO is situated near Osterport in Copenhegan, Denmark. The hall booked for us was dressed-up so ancient, as if we were in a furnished cave. There was little light and the African orchestra was engaging us through those hidden speakers. We tried to add contrast to the music with our timid laughters and fuzzy cross talks. There was a clap, followed by “Welcome to MOGOGO” the host announced that we are now in Ethiopia and we are supposed to stick to the Ethiopian way of dining. Here are the rules; You will be served a menu of traditional Ethiopian food in big plates. The size of the plates stay suffecient to serve 4 people sit together and enjoy the great dinner. You will not be accompaned with fork, kife or a spoon for that matter. Your fingers do the job. That’s the Ethiopian style. The dictation was over with a great smile. There were shocks and surprizes, “Fingers???” except us, three Indians in the team. Here is the extra tip, “Are there any Indians among you,” “Yes” raised our voices. She added, “you have a surprise about the food, wait and see…!” We were waiting. It took some time until the surprises dissolved in air and the great king, Christian IV came in as the topic of the table. Then came, those huge plates decoreated with some lathery, fragile circular dish that looks smillar to our AAPPAM(DOSA)!! Myself, an Indian frined, a chinese PhD student and a Danish professor were on our ONE PLATE. The salad was served with some spinach, tomato mixed with olive, pepper and salt in the middle of the plate and then came the gravy. Myself and the Indian friend opted for a vegetarian stuff and so were tomotos and carrots in the place of chicken and lamb. Our fingers went on eazy, picked up a little of the DOSA like dish and moved some gravy in to it, engaged our tongue. To my surprize the food was not at all alien. My Indian friends eyes too shared the simillar surprize. “ Hey..!!! This is more Indian” yelled, my friend. Next to me, our Dane and the Chinese counterparts were struggling to engage their fingers, still to tast it were on a pause!
Yes, that was a typical Indian flavour. The taste matched exactly our home land. The lady of the restaurent was enjoying our eyes expanding. “Yes,” she says with a long smile, “it is your people long, long ago used to travel the Red Sea for trade. They have to halt at Ethiopia before they meet their Egypt friends. They introduced the spices to us and that’s how we have the same flavour. So, that’s the surprize, what I quoted for you!”

That was a nice feeling. A great history was before us that tasted delicious. I remembered the schoolday stories told by our literature teachers that our forefathers had a well built maritime and a great network of trade around the world. We had established contacts and commerce with the Egyptians in those old, old days. We traveled the red sea all along with our valuables, etc… etc… We know this through a handfull of archiological findings and the texts in our literature. Now, here is a live proof.
The next time, this week when am in copenhegan, I did not miss to show this to my other Indian friend came to visity me from Germany. This time, it was me compering about the food and our history. I wanted to share this with you all while I am savouring the proud history of our forefathers. Thanks MOGOGO. http://www.mogogo.dk/
